Taylor Swift’s latest cinematic release, The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, has debuted at No. 1 at the domestic box office, grossing $33 million during its single-weekend run, according to early figures from Hollywood trade publications.
The film, which ties into Swift’s newly released twelfth studio album The Life of a Showgirl, played in over 3,700 theaters nationwide. It earned $15.8 million on Friday alone, with tickets priced at $12—a possible nod to the album’s place in her discography.
Featuring behind-the-scenes footage and the premiere of a new music video, the film received an A+ CinemaScore from audiences, signaling strong approval from Swift’s fanbase. The pop star, who previously dominated box offices with her 2023 concert film The Eras Tour, continues to prove her commercial power across both music and film.
In comparison, Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, earned between $10 million and $11 million in its second weekend. The film is on track to become Anderson’s highest-grossing title, surpassing There Will Be Blood, though its reported $130 million production budget raises questions about profitability.
Meanwhile, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s latest film The Smashing Machine, directed by Benny Safdie, struggled in its debut, pulling in just $6 million. The UFC biopic marks Johnson’s weakest opening in years, a sharp contrast to his recent successes like Moana 2 and Red One.
Swift’s box office triumph underscores her continued dominance in entertainment, with Showgirl not only celebrating her latest musical chapter but also reinforcing her status as a cultural and commercial force.
